The streets of Philadelphia have long been a hotbed of hip-hop talent, and one group that helped put the city on the map is State Property. Formed in the late 1990s, the group consisted of rappers Meek Mill, Raekwon, and several other talented MCs. Under the guidance of DJ Premier and producer/mentor, Pete Rock, State Property developed a distinct sound that blended gritty lyricism with infectious beats.
One of the most notable releases from State Property is "The Chain Gang Vol. 2", a mixtape that dropped in 2008. Although not initially released as a commercial album, "The Chain Gang Vol. 2" has become a legendary project within hip-hop circles, praised for its raw energy, lyrical dexterity, and cohesive production.
The guest features on "The Chain Gang Vol. 2" are equally impressive, with appearances from notable artists like Lloyd Banks, Freeway, and even a young Gunplay. These collaborations add an extra layer of excitement to the tape, as the State Property crew exchanges verses with some of hip-hop's most respected figures.
