Shriya Saran was born on September 11, 1982, and began her journey as a trained Kathak and folk dancer. Though her film debut was in the 2001 Telugu film Ishtam , she made her Tamil debut with the bilingual project Enakku 20 Unakku 18 (2003).
Following the massive success of Sivaji , Shriya balanced high-budget commercial entertainers with experimental roles:
Her status as a top-tier actress was cemented in 2007 when she starred as "Thamizhselvi" opposite in Sivaji: The Boss . Directed by S. Shankar, it was the most expensive Indian film at the time and became the highest-grossing Tamil film of its era.
